Dear Sir Matthew,
We got information last evening about 9 PM that there was to be a general mobilisation of Irish Volunteers to be followed by an attack on Dublin Castle. Needless to say I did not believe the latter statement. However as the Sinn Feiners began to assemble with arms at Kimmage and Blackhall Place and the Transport and Workers Union people at Liberty Hall I thought it well to take no chances so had a good reserve of our own men and 300 Military standing by until 11.15 PM when the bodies at these three centres dispersed. I tried to get you on the phone about 10.30 PM but failed.
